Deer Hunting in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan is on every big-whitetail bucket list. The farm fringe and aspen parkland of the south and centre of the province, the zones around the Qu'Appelle, the Touchwood Hills and the boreal transition, grow bucks with the mass and spread that make magazine covers, and the November rut is the peak of the season.

Archery seasons open September 1, muzzleloader seasons follow, and rifle seasons run mid-November into early December. The season tables below are quoted from the current Saskatchewan Hunters' and Trappers' Guide with the page cited on each row.

Deer hunting in Saskatchewan: the basics

White-tailed Deer

📋 In provincial parks and recreation sites with a September white-tailed deer season (or September either-sex season), hunting for white-tailed deer is prohibited until September 10 (pp. 17, 18, 20). Non-residents of Canada must use a licensed outfitter; Canadian residents unsuccessful in the draw can hunt via a guided white-tailed deer licence; guided archery/muzzleloader/crossbow/shotgun/rifle seasons are in place in portions of some forest fringe zones (p. 20). Hunting is permitted in WMUs and national wildlife areas within a WMZ listed as open for big game, except Fort a la Corne WMU and the St. Denis National Wildlife Research Area (p. 18).
