Moose Hunting in British Columbia
BC moose hunting spans the whole province: from the Omineca and Skeena country of the north, the highest moose densities many hunters will ever see, to the Cariboo and Kootenay regions with their 10-point bull regulations in select Management Units. Many northern either-sex seasons are on general open season, making BC one of the few places a resident can moose hunt without a draw.
Seasons run September through November and into December for spikes/forks in some MUs. The tables below quote the current BC Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis with citations on every row.
Moose hunting in BC: the basics
- Licences: resident hunting licence + species licence via FrontCounter BC; a Fish and Wildlife ID (FWID) is required.
- Bull definitions (10-point, spike-fork, tri-palm) vary by region: know your MU's rule before pulling the trigger.
- Where: the Omineca (MU 7-series), Skeena, and Cariboo regions for numbers; the Kootenays for managed trophy hunts.
- The synopsis runs on a two-year cycle: confirm you're reading the current edition for your MU.
